I followed suit with a tamale, a plate, a newspaper, and a keyboard. The Tamale Headline Keyboard Smackdown was on. I thought the Giants World Series Victory was a nice touch.
We soon discovered we'd been hoarding some interesting headlines. Rules: Tamale (or part thereof), plate, keyboard, newspaper.
Lorena Bobbit touch
Were we suckers?

I think I'm missing whatever I'm supposed to be reading between the lines, but this is very entertaining, esp. the old headlines.
Were the Giants ever serious about leaving S.F.? I don't remember that.
Yes, Banjo. At the end of the 1992 season it looked like the Giants were headed for Tampa. Luckily, Peter Magowan, head of Safeway Stores, put together a group to keep the Giants in SF, and built a new downtown ballpark. Another reason the World Series win was so emotional. Magowan and his family were in the Giants victory parade as was another former owner, Bob Lurie. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays can't draw a crowd even while winning their division.
Absolute winner: Hebrew Nationals w/ choco chip cookies.
Thank you, Queen of Internet Smackdowns!
You've got some cool old newspapers and empty tamales.
Sounds like a song title P. The first one was full!
i love the not-so-subtle subtexts. in my eyes, the Lorenna Bobbitt weapon = WIN, although instead of a tamale, some cuisine from Mickey D's would work equally well.
Love the imagery with the headlines. Lorena's is graphic.
Is your house one big collection of old newspapers? We read about people like you and wonder who you are...
I don't know about Kris, but my collection is only about 8 inches high. Just a few memorable sports pages and a few others. No, I'm not a candidate for Hoarders, but I do understand the underlying feeling.
Whew!!! I'm glad you clarified Mr. E!!! I was beginning to worry!!! Lot's of interesting Headlines!!! Perhaps too much time on your hands though???
Love the originality!
Cool way to highlight your collection of important newspaper stories (although now I want a tamale). Wouldn't quite have the same impact if you had photographed printouts of online articles. The 1989 and 1992 Chrons must be a hoot to flip through. And I like how you just threw everything into the mix in the King of Pop photo (that has the makings of a fun party).
Katie: I have one from the 1989 Loma Prieta Quake that says, "Hundreds Dead in Huge Quake." It was wrong of course - they made some assumptions that luckily proved incorrect. Kris and I decided not to use "tragedy" headlines. She had one about Diana's death that she didn't use. I went with the MJ one because... well I don't know. More of a curiosity than a tragedy I guess. I think somewhere my sister may have some from JFK and RFK.
I expected you to have your annual Christmas piece up today. Think you should.
