The Lake Shrine

At the end of Sunset Boulevard near Pacific Coast Highway is one of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles: The Lake Shrine. http://www.seeing-stars.com/Churches/LakeShrine.shtml The shrine belongs to the Self-Realization Fellowship http://www.yogananda-srf.org/. It's a great place to visit. Here are some photos from my visit on January 3, 2009.

I used to visit there quite often. It's nice to be reminded.

I'd forgotten about this place! I used to go there a lot for walks and picnics in the late 80s.

Is there still one in the middle of Hollywood? You know what is less than a mile from my house? the Theosophical Society headquarters. I looked it up once online, but the founders appeared very dour, so I didn't continue with the research. (I'm superficial.)

I believe the SRF has a temple in Hollywood. Their world HQ is atop Mt. Washington. Then there's Swami's in Encinitas that you pass on highway 1. Check their website for a location near you. Your mileage may vary. Not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Hidden indeed. I've never seen or heard of this but thanks to you it is going on my list of family day trips. Thank you! Now to check out more of your posts...
